...yes, this one was a penalty - you can't hit them in the head!
Ouch, I hope that was an accident. Otherwise he's a real jerk. Nice shots.
Tonight - rugby under lights - the lineout lift.
D7100 1/640 f2.8 ISO 6400
I know nothing about Rugby, I guess. I had no idea what a line-out lift was. I had to look it up. Nice, dramatic shot.

Russ - I agree about the way they are facing, but got some good ones of the guy coming in before the hit...sometimes it works even without faces
Some dads complained about the penalty - when I told them it was a good call, they asked if I had photo evidence
Russ - it is the last weekend this month for the rugby - really looking forward to shooting it for the first time...The way it works is that the player must maintain control of the ball...the umpire's original call was that the runner was out...discussed with the other ump since everyone else saw him drop the ball then he changed his call!

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Sportz - I love it when you get the evidence too, this shot was from last weekend, you're not allowed to take out a player in the air, a sending off ensued. I showed the pic to the trainer on the sideline, "fair enough then" was the response!
(the quality is s bit crap - taken from my facebook page)

Always happy to educate!

Had a busy week... and as always I can't pick just one.
This one is the most surreal. Kids had dropped a sweet outside and it melted in the sun - Ants were all over it and managed to get an okay shot.

Wish I could tell you lol. I have out together a lot of presets in lightroom over the last few years that I use predominantly and I can't really remember how I made them.
If you're ever interested I'd be happy to share the preset with you.

Great group, but I am (maybe morbidly) drawn to the first one.
Yes I was too. I love super macro shots and think this is definately a route I'll be drawn into when I get a proper macro lens.
Some good ones, Mr Leeman. I like the last one best.
I never know if I'm just bias when it's my son, but glad you like it too!
Lee, quite some good shots in this group.
I am hesitating between the first (had to look twice to identify what it was about, even so giving a good picture, once it is in context) and the last one, as bests.
The eyes take a moment don't they.lol I wished I had a propper macro lens for it, to really get the sweet and ant super sharp.
I'll figure out how to share and a way to get it to you
I'm in the que if you're giving away presets! lol
I think it's vibrance that's doing it. It has a wonderful muted look - something I've failed to create in my presets. Plus I reckon the D800 helps. ha ha

Vibrance or saturation. Probably a combination of the two... The D800 with it's high pixel count is probably more of a hindrance than an asset when looking for a muted result at screen resolution, Reducing size usually gives higher contrast and more saturated colours.

I tend to steer clear of the saturation tab. I get an unusal orange cast in my shots, not sure what it is but I don't like it. It's the only one I reduce as it brings a more natural look to skin tones. Alhtough I have lightroom and shoot in raw, I havn't spent a long time on any one pic (purely because of how many I usually have), so I create something that works quickly and hit apply to all. 9/10 it's fine, but I get a few that just don't look right whatever I do. lol

Saturation really kills the skin tones. You can go to the HSL settings and reduce the orange and red. There is a selection tool that determines what you should select, then you can slide the slider to the left. Or, you can adjust the other colors instead of using the saturation slider you can adjust the colors that are not in the skin, say blue for the sky and green for plants and boost those without affecting the skin.
Maybe we should setup a preset exchange. I am always interested in adding to the collection. Maybe Adam would host them on the forum.
