Nikon's F-mount DSLR lens lineup is strengthened by two new additions today: the AF-S Nikkor 400mm F2.8E FL ED VR extreme telephoto prime, and the AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E III rear converter. Both new items are updated versions of existing products. The new 400mm lens is a fast professional-grade prime designed for sports photographers. It features a redesigned optical formula consisting of 16 elements in 12 groups, 2 of which are special fluorite elements for superior aberration control.

The lens comes with a dedicated trunk case and accepts 40.5mm drop-in filters. It will be available in late August at a retail price of $11,999.

The 1.4x mark III teleconverter also features a new optical formula compared to its predecessor. In addition, it's the first Nikon teleconverter to offer a durable weather-sealed construction (other than the dedicated 1.25x converter for the 800mm lens).

Best of all, the new teleconverter is being launched at $499, or $20 less than its predecessor.

Nikon also announced some additions to the Nikon 1 mirrorless system today: the Nikon 1 J4, Nikon 1 S2, a waterproof flash, and a waterproof underwater case.
