Hello all,
My Coolpix P520 battery is usually dead after almost 3 hours of photography. Is this normal for this camera or mine has problem? I am thinking to buy another battery, bet I would like to hear your thoughts first.
Thanks,
Azadeh

Can you give a ballpark on how many pictures you have taken in that three hour window?

I agree with Jerry - using the built-in flash can significantly reduce the battery life of any camera. Don't really know that camera, but it appears to have a pop-up flash...If you've left the camera on and flash up for three hours and shot about 55 images with flash, it wouldn't surprise me if the battery wore out. Especially if you're using the LCD as well. Not sure if you charged it right before the event, but that can make a difference too. You can save battery life by shutting down the flash when you aren't using it and doing the same with the camera if you know you'll have some time between pix...If you don't need the LCD, turn that off too...basically, everything you do with the camera is using the battery, so try to limit things to what you need and when you need them. I have always picked up a second battery when picking up any bridge or point and shoot camera just to be on the safe side. That said, I also run all my DSLRs with the drive base so I always have two batteries going on them as well.
Thanks for all the answers.
Actually, I have not use any flash shoot yet, but I used my LCD to check shots and do the setting. I am going for the butterfly photography event, so I do not want to miss half of the event for a dead battery. I myself not sure if I charged full 4 hours before use it,since I am beginner and I got the camera, recently.
I guess, I take Sportz Guy advice, and buy a second battery to be in a safe side.
Thanks again.
