I agree with Nicole. A nice shot of a difficult subject. Nikon sensors tend to blow reds and lose detail, you have avoided that and composed a pleasing picture as well. Well done Eagles!

OK...one more from this week...I lucked out the wedding this weekend...The bride and groom and groom's family had asked me to photograph the wedding, but the bride's father went and hired someone - actually two people working as a team.  I would have been happy to do it for long time friends, but I'm glad I was able to shoot the wedding without having to be responsible for "covering" the wedding.  The service was outside at a vineyard.  They have a large pond on the property that has an island in the middle of the pond and a bridge going to the island from the main side.  The service was on the island, but I stayed on the other side of the bridge and was able to capture some photos that the official photographers didn't.  You can see one of the photographers in the background capturing it from the island.  I love this shot of the bride and groom as they stopped about mid-way walking back across the bridge after service for a kiss...

Including Thumper's pictures posted in next week's challenge by mistake, we have been 27 participants this week. A big pat on the back!

It is nice (and rare) that we have a climate on the site that make even relative newcomers to the hobby feel safe in showcasing the best they have done. We are not competing against each other in this challenge, but showing the world what we can do and hopefully grow with the experience.

Once again, congratulations on participating!

Nice shot, Sportz2pix! You captured a great moment. They should be pleased with that. So…am I a jerk if I wonder what the other photographer is bouncing light off of with that modifier pointed straight up…at the sky? I don't really know much about lighting yet, so I am really wondering. Does that help when you're outside? Perhaps she just left it on after being inside. But I'm still wondering...

Thanks for the kudo!

The modifier looks like it could be a Lightsphere, in which case it gives a little bit softer light losing 1 2/3 stop used like that if the dogdish is in place. Photographers who have drunk of Fong's koolaid tend to use his modifiers in all situations...

My photos fall well short of the bar that is set around here, but this was my favorite of the ones that I shot this week.

F 5.6

ISO 1600

1/10 second

Focal length 55mm

Eagle

Dude, the colour is great, the composistion is great, the detail is great... so I'm saying it's a great shot - and I'm not a bit fan of floral images. I'm super critical of my own work as I compare to where I want to be, and not where I'm at right now. Thus, you cast asside what are more than acceptable peices. What possible negative could you find with it?

It is good to hear other opinions, prior to posting the only feedback I had gotten was from my wife who calls it "my dead flowers" picture.

Nicole,

I don't know if she had the flash on or not outside, but I'm guessing it didn't matter...when I saw the setup closer, it looked like she had a deflector setup on the flash but I doubt that it would do much on that photo, outside with no ceiling from probably 100 feet away :).  I never noticed her change the angle of the flash either when she was shooting portraits inside the reception.  The other photographer is visible in the background as well (green sweater) looking towards the front of the service.  I did see her changing the angle to keep her bounce off the ceiling of the reception.  I tried to stay out of their way...didn't agree with some of what they did, but there are many ways to get results and I am far from an expert on wedding photography.  One thing I had not seen before was a posed, post-wedding photo of the groom and his family without the bride.  From what I've seen and been taught, family photos after the service at weddings always include both bride and groom since they are now a part of each other's family.  Oh well, I was glad I was there and I hope they enjoy the photos I shot...

Peter - well said - I love that everyone seems comfortable sharing photos and many folks choose to share more than one on some weeks.  I know I have a large number of photos to catch up on this week along with many more to shoot if the weather cooperates!

Don't get me started on my wife!!!

My wife is wonderful, and very understanding.  We just have a very different sense of what is beautiful.  The interesting thing is that this situation is reversed from what it normally would be.  Normally she is the one who can enjoy a picture for pure face value, and I am the one who gets hung up in what the underlying item was that was being photographed.
