Caught Venus (I think) in that one.

I know those last 3 kind of suck.  I was tired and cold and not as prepared as I should have been.  The good thing is that I will have another chance at a better set in a few months.  We have two more Blood Moons this year.

I will post my EXIF data later.  I am heading to bed.

Let's see your Blood Moon shots!!

Good job! Maybe I'll try to get a long lens and get some shots for the next blood moon--apparently we're going to have another one in a few months?

Should be in October 8, 2014.  Then there are two more in 2015, falling on April 4 and Sept. 28.

I know what botched my last 3 shots the most.   Unstable (cheap) tripod. (I did use a shutter release cable).  Had the legs fully extended and the neck fully extended, and the shutter and mirror action rocked it.  The moon in those shots was really small, and I had to crop and enlarge it quite a bit, and the motion of the camera was all too evident.   I'll have that issue resolved in October.

It was a good learning experience, and I had a lot of fun doing it.

Better than what I got.

I was sawing logs from 10pm to 6am.

Thanks everyone. I hope to be better prepared next time. Had the same problem with camera shake. I guess me shivering on the deck was enough to create some. Plus I was still half asleep and having trouble looking through that little viewfinder trying to focus. And of course after all that I couldn't go back to sleep.

Looking forward to October 8th and being outside the city lights to try again.

Here's one that I put together last night. Spent a couple hours in the backyard with a tempature of -12C. I was using my D200 & 80-400mm 4.5-5.6D lens mounted on a Manfrotto tripod.

Thanks guys!  Here's an updated version of the 4th shot where I got rid of the color noise.

Adam I was wondering if you could share with us how you managed to get such a perfect exposure.

The moon had to have been brighter than the stars, even in eclipse, and yet everything is well balanced.

Nice shots! I was awake listening to the rain and trying to get a puppy to settle down!  Hopefully October...I have a great location away from city lights where I want to try some night shots, but it hasn't worked out well when I've been there (about 7 hours away) for various reasons...maybe I can try to be there in October...

My apologies for being so late for the action and I hope I'm not acting against any forum traditions by resurrecting an old thread.

Anyway, I just found this thread and wanted to share my own take at the blood moon and lunar eclipse. In part also to get to know the forum software and find out how uploading works. So here it is:

gallery_13750_618_482229.jpg

Setup:
D3100 with Tamron 70-300 f/4.0-5.6 Di SP VC USD on a Velbon Sherpa 600R Tripod, using aperture priority and the camera's own timed shutter release.

Note: the Sherpa isn't really suited for jobs like these (gear too heavy) and the Tamron can't be connected directly to the tripod (at least not without extra equipment). Result: I got a lot of shakey pictures. But some of them were good enough to use them at low magnification.

Edit: replaced the attachment with a gallery-link
