I could have used a radio remote, but the interval setting on the D300 is a powerful tool. Setting up a delay of about a minute to get in place without running solves the problem of getting in the shot yourself and then letting the camera do several bursts of five exposures with a delay between bursts to clear the cache gives a series where you can pick the one where everybody looks awake . I did 95 photos in this series.
To get the same DOF and FOV with the D700 I would have had to use a 35 mm lens at about f/6.3 and ISO 1600 to get the same exposure time. DX is definitely useful still, not only for reach with teles.
