Has anyone had their DSLR converted for Infrared photography (removing the anti aliasing filter and replacing it with an IR filter)? I am considering looking into the cost to change my D200 to Infrared and thought I would ask if anyone has done this and what their thoughts on it are. I know there are some good software plugins which mimic IR photography (I use them myself) but having seen images taken with a converted camera I am not sure whether I could fully recreate the same effect from an IR camera fully using a normal image and software.
So, thoughts anyone? Does anyone know, or have experience of, any companies in the UK (preferably Scotland) that they can recommend to carry out the work should I decide to do this with my D200?
Does anyone know if the D200 lends itself to this type of conversion? I know with some cameras, the end results can be better than others due to types of sensors etc.Obviously, the D200 does not have live view, so it will not be possible to view the results until after the image is taken and then viewed on the viewfinder. I was recommended to consider older compact/bridge style cameras with live view so you would see the effect as you compose the image real-time and would know if the effect was working on the subject matter or not (and they are much cheaper should anything go wrong in the conversion process).
