Don't stress even in the slightest about how your photo compares to other posters. If you do this will become unenjoyable for you. It really is a good photo.
PS if you don't mind, having noticed your Flickr account reference, I'll ask to befriend you on Flickr.
PPS and wanting other Flickr friends from on this site too please
Good advice, funny peculiar. Comparing ourselves to others is the quickest way to start feeling pretty crappy about life in general. I wasn't so much comparing their photos to mine as much I was feeling like I hadn't put forth my best efforts, and it really looked like everyone else really had. Kinda felt like I was calling it in, ya know? And I'm following you on Flickr too!
Nicole and K-9, your challenge photos are too interesting not to be posted. So what if you were a bit late in posting them. They were taken in the right timeframe and in the spirit of the challenge, that's what counts in an informal challenge like this. This first week set the challenge off to a good start, let's hope it continues... I will try not to take the easy way out with studio shots I can do while half asleep (even if I personally think it turned out well) and push myself more in the weeks to come.

Peter, I wish I could do studio shots while half asleep! I just spent half the morning trying to get the lighting just right on a chocolate cheesecake still life--finally gave up and decided to work with what I had. I could probably use some lessons from you.
