Hi everyone,

Decided to pick up a Cokin P Series filter holder genuine from a camera dealer in the city, but i was shocked when i saw prices of filters and the genuine branded lens adapters.

Seriously 30 bucks for a metal ring with a tiny thread this is ridiculous.

I would like to know if anyone out there has had any experiences with third part compatible manufacturers of the cokin system and the filters

I know everyone says get a high quality filter and all that, but i just cant see why there is such a big cost difference on filters and parts and even if quality was not par with genuine it cant be that bad.

Your thoughts or recommendations everyone! im currently looking on Ebay and b2b sites at the moment

The problem is that you are getting what you've paid for (almost always). Resin filters are much worse than glass one. They will never be so smooth and even as glass one - they will have big impact on image quality (sharpness) or flares and other unexpected "extras" on your pictures.

That's true serge about getting what we pay for, but even to pay 40 bucks for even the mounts and the carry cases is pretty cheap even if the filters were so crappy lol

i might give it a go anyway and try my luck, are cokin filters glass or resin also?

Cokins are resin like the copies, but probably of a better grade. I have tried some Cokin Z filters, but even if they are cheap I don't find them worth having compared to Lee parallel ground and polished glass filters.

Lee filters are resin also? I just think we are paying for a name in my opinion, for example welding glass which must comply with worldwide standards and also be toughened and tested,

I bought a 4x3 inch shade 10 for 4 dollars, I just don't see why these systems command such a high price compared to actual glass that has to be tested etc

sure id love a lee system but to get a basic filter setup will set me back over 600 bucks, id rather achieve almost the same result via photo or lightroom!

The proglass series are floatglass, poly series are polyester and resin is resin.
A NDGrad filter, polarizer or ND filter can not be even approximated in software. Most effect filter can, though.
