Posting some pix of baseball from this past weekend.
First off as discussed in another topic, when shooting college ball, I'm mostly outside of the fence around the field. That works OK at some fields and not well at all on other fields. This was my first time to this field and it was about middle of the road as far as shooting from outside the fence. Here's the best spot I found for shooting (taken with my iPhone):
It isn't bad for looking out at most of the field, but shooting down towards home plate for batters or the catcher (or plays at the plate) was really tough as you can tell from the second shot. If you look at the second shot, the orange jersey to the right of the frame is a batter at home plate. The catcher and umpire are also there if you look closely. For those who have never tried to shoot through a fence, with a long lens, if you get close enough to the fence, you basically won't see the fence in the final image. But shooting towards the plate, while you didn't see the fence, you got what appears to be a foggy image...
To be fair to the field, I could have moved around a bit and gotten some other angles, but these are for me as well as the young men out on the field - not for an assignment, so I chose to shoot what I could and enjoy the beautiful 70+F weather of the day, watching my son play a game he loves. I also know I'm shooting several more games where I'll have the opportunity to shoot without the fence with better angles.
So, here are some shots:
