Might be going to Vegas in a couple of days, anyone know of any good locations to get some good landscape photo's around there? Or any historical or significant landmark's that would be a good place to take photos of? Also any tips for night or day photography would be helpful.

Excellent place to take landscape photos. Just driving around and anywhere you look are perfect angle to capture. Desert mountains to green islands of oasis to strip lights at night, they are all interesting to capture. I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy the place with your camera. Have fun. I had this enjoyable experience last summer.

You might try the worlds largest ferris wheel.  It is nearing completion.  One block east off the strip.  The backdrop of casinos at night create some interesting choices.

If you can, set aside a day and go check out the Grand Canyon.  We took a plane ride from Vegas to there, and it was a pretty cool experience.  May be able to get a better deal if you call the place directly, rather than have the hotel concierge do it.

If you can get outside Vegas, the Valley of Fire (just north) is spectacular. The Neon Museum is a photographer's paradise. The Old Las Vegas strip is also very photogenic, especially at night.

When we go to or pass through Las Vegas, my husband's favorite place to go is the Pinball Hall of Fame--they have hundreds of pinball machines, old and new. No entry fee--just take tons of quarters.

If you have time and money, a Cirque du Soleil show is worth taking in.

Hoover Dam is southeast of Las Vegas near the town of Boulder. I've always wanted to take a helicopter tour of the dam and Lake Mead...maybe someday soon. If you do end up in Boulder, you ought to eat at Mel's Diner. Simple fare but so good.

Ethel M Chocolate Factory has a little self-guided tour, which may or may not interest you, but the attached cactus botanical garden is lovely. If you've got a macro, check it out.

We don't gamble, so I've sort of made a point of finding other interesting things to do in Las Vegas. It seems like we've been there a lot within the last couple of years. My sister-in-law lives there, which I don't understand--it seems like the most useless place on the planet.

Thanks for all your suggestions and I appreciate it. Unfortunately I will only be in Vegas for a few days so I won't be able to try them all but you guys gave me a lot of good ideas. Will try and post some when I get back.

The two places I remember from my time in Vegas was the Hoover Dam which Nicole mentioned above and there was a town that had London Bridge in it, which we passed through on our way from Grand Canyon to Vegas.

 Lake Havasu, (Think I spelled that right)   Ohh to rent a houseboat there during spring break again.  I could imagine one could get some beautiful landscape photo's when its not crowded. Definitly a cool place.

The only problem with that region is the dry heat. I was there in July and it was a scorcher. Seem to recall wearing a pair of underpants on my head that were soaking in cold water, just to cool myself down.

The heat wasn't a problem this time of the year, I was thinking maybe this is the best time of the year to travel through Nevada for a couple of reasons. Lower temperatures and less people. 

 

The high temperature was about 23c or 73f when we were here this time and the crowds on the strip weren't so massive and congested on the strip, making walking down the strip pleasant. This was actually my third time in Vegas though in the last 2 years. We came here in July too. It was 45c or 113f at the time, the heat was intense and walking down the strip without bumping into others was a challenge in the summer because of the massive amounts of people there at the time. When we came in the summer we came from California and through Death Valley and I was very surprised when my engine temperature began rise beyond the half way mark on the gage and our car was new and also to see so many cars over heated or broken down in the Valley because of the heat.

 

When I was here in the summer I never got to take to many night pictures because of all the crowds and congestion on the strip and I was not very good at night photography. So this time I was looking for ideas, and I appreciate the input given by all and I did get to see the Hoover Dam this time but it was later in the day and the lighting was not so great for landscape photography. P.S. Keep the ideas for photography in Vegas coming in because I would like to go back in the spring and also this is a good opportunity for others to get some ideas for photography in Vegas. 

Also I forgot to mention I seen Pete Rose the former Major League baseball player in Vegas and he autographed a baseball for me.

By the way, not a pretty picture and I think that all the photo's taken were shredded. This was a few years ago when I was 'young and daft'. I have now progressed to being 'old and stupid'.

Your images bring back so many great memories. When I visited I was with my father in law, who now has dementia and is in a home. The dam is a brilliant example of incredible engineering, particularly when you consider when it was built and at a cost of human life.
