Two more orchid images. These are both Bulbophyllums, not rare, but also probably unfamiliar to anyone outside orchid enthusiast circles...

Bulbophyllum bicolor

This one is a hybrid but we're not sure of the parentage.

Both shot with a D80 and Micro-Nikkor 60mm macro

Thanks, Dean and Ron.

Should have noted, the flowers are fairly small, less than an inch or so top to bottom.

I'll dig up some more recognizable (familiar) orchid flowers... also much larger than these!

Bulbos can be very interesting, or just plain weird-looking. Huge genus -- more than a thousand species! Only a few can be considered "fragrant", meaning pleasantly (to human noses) scented. Many are quite stinky! The most interesting part of some of the flowers is the hinged lip -- that's the nose-like protuberance in the center of the flower -- which bobbles up and down in the slightest breeze.
