Hello,

Just received my Sigma 100-300 f4 today so thought I would test it photographing the moon

Here is my attempt - a heavy crop from the d7100. Overall I'm very impressed with the sharpness from this lens so far :D

This is my first real post here (just switched from the Pentax system) so I'm looking forward to using and learning from the forum.

Cheers,

Keir.

Thanks!

Settings: Manual,  1/800th , F11, 300mm, ISO 200, Mirror Lock Up.

I might try again at ISO 100 to try and reduce the noise.

Cheers,

Keir.

Not much noise in that pic from what I can see. Looks really sharp.

Really sharp!

Noise? At ISO 200? I don't see any noise in that photo.

I might try this with my new Nikkor 55-300 tonight at the same settings and see if it is that sharp. I don't think it is.

When you say "mirror lock up" did you mean you used the Live View setting?

Love, love, love this.  Hope I can take a nice crisp shot like that one day!

Here's the best I got from my 55-300mm 4.5-5.6 Nikon lens. Zoomed all the way out to 300, tripod, self-timer shutter release, fast shutter speed and small aperture.

I don't think it is nearly as sharp a lens as the Sigma in the original post.

Great pics again. I agree that the Sigma looks sharper. Hopefully I can try to replicate these shots if we ever get a clear day.
