I recently tried to use my D 3100 (unused for about a year, damn i phone camera) and after charging the battery found that the AUTOFOCUS would not work, The camera took the picture but out of focus...I tried another battery and a different lens with the same result....YES AUTOFOCUS is ON.

I used to work when I stopped using it  !!

Any suggestions?

Daniel

I had this with a D3200.
The fix for mine was a firmware update.

If yours is on an older level, it might be worth a try.

Check Nikon website and download the latest version to give it a try.

Of course, there could be other reasons for AF failure. This will warrant investigation into the AF system itself.
