Normalvember returns. This year, the double meaning can make things interesting as I have decided to expand the scope of the challenge… Shoot with a normal focal length lens in November or shoot normal things with an artistic interpretation with whatever lens you want and make art of the humdrum in November. You choose how to interpret the challenge! The real challenge can be to combine the two meanings.

If you want to go with the normal lens interpretation, grab a 35 on DX or a 50 on FX and play along!
If you don't have a normal prime, just lock your normal zoom to a relevant focal length with some vinyl electrician's tape or gaffer tape and get out and shoot.

I think that I have the perfect lens for the challenge.

Normal photos with this freak lens:

:excl:  Vivitar Series 1 Q-DOS 70-210mm F2.8-4.0 3D for Nikon  :excl:
Vivitar Series 1 Q-DOS 70-210mm F2.8-4.0 Lens Reviews - Vivitar Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database

If I shot from 135mm to 200mm, I can create 3D bizarre red/cyan effect.

Use it in my 12mpx cameras is wise because some people report problems with High MPX cameras and this lens. ^_^

Note : not easy to use correctly this lens, but I will do the best I can. :P

By the way, Peter S start to looking for the special vintage red/blue 3D glasses, B)

Another question, may I can use 58mm lens?

Very close to 50mm like your rules, but need the adapter to Nikon so can't focus to infinite.

Normal lenses on FX usually span from 40 to 60 mm.

OK then it is allowed 58mm

I am a freak using this kind of lens and surely Nikon D3 or D3s or both.

But would be fun for sure, the Normal....freak November.

Maybe I will use both if allowed by the rules, I can change or switch.

By all means, use as many, or few, lenses as you like.

Background: Night photo of a parking door using only streetlight illumination, no flash and no tripod.

Use 50mm for street art is rare for me, usually I use 28mm and 35mm.

Soft colors and full open aperture f/1.2 and soft filter create this effect like NL colors like old Tintin's book.

I will start out Normalvember with a bang! This still life is very similar to some work I did on 120 film back in 2000 or a little earlier. Then I used a Rolleiflex 6008i with a Schneider 80/2.8 and the same ultra precise Broncolor strobes I used today. The base the glass and tea strainer stands on is a piece of a well used linen tablecloth I saved when most of it was thrown away as it was too worn. Lighting is two heads into 85 cm parabolic reflectors from above with a couple of wrinkled aluminium foil reflectors to create the rim light on the glass. I then had to flag the base of the reflectors to avoid ripples in the condensed tea droplets in the glass.

It's surprising what silliness can happen when the weather is bad outside.

The arrangement used to photograph my JIS screwdrivers that arrived today.

Surely there's nothing more exciting than some new tools?

I think this qualifies as both a Normal object and a Normal lens...

Can anyone identify what the subject is? And, perhaps the technique used?

Looks like an automotive tire and wheel to me. As to your technique ... I don't have a clue.

It is the mop wringer on a cleaning bucket. The camera is on a tripod with the optical axis more or less vertical. The bucket is half-full of water and I fired two speedlights through the red plastic bucket, aligned with the water’s surface to get the angry red background and the silhouette foreground.
