I just bought a second hand Nikon D3 for 250 Euros. In Barcelona

The camera was in good shape, it was a backup body from a PRO photographer from" El Periodico"

El Periódico - Noticias y última hora de Catalunya, España y el mundo

Without charger *, with an original Nikon battery life 4 and 200k shoots. Usually average life of this shutter is 400k.

I think is nice price for this camera right now and still usefully.

* Note : I don't need the charger cos I have 2 already from D2x and D3x. And this factor help me to low the price in the negotiations.

I think you got a good deal on that Lube.

Since I got my D800E, (approx November 2021), I've taken 20,000 shots, so your back-up D3 should last awhile unless you plan to take up motor sport photography.

The D3 shutter is one of more longevity of all flagship Nikon, I am not worried.

I planned to use manual mode and single shot with old vintage lens only, D3 will have long live.

The 12mpx are ideal to work with old vintage lenses and the Auto ISO 6400 is not too bad for use at night.

It might be worth getttting an F6 screen for it if you intend to shoot mostly manual lenses.

Good idea, I think that can use it in Nikon D3x also.

I will search for second hand too, but I think it's not easy to find used one.

But I think that I masterized the use of the default screen in D4

If I buy one, I will create a blog about it, explaining my experience. :)

Add on: I think is the same screen for F6, D3,D4 and D5 series model F6-J

Lately, the prices of old DSLR dinosaurs are really low in the second hand market, people hurry to do the change to mirrorless at the same time and suddenly everybody wants to sell old dinosaurs, It just begins the winter is coming..... B)

As you know, I just bought an old DSLR. I still like them, They have some advantages for me - they start up extremely quickly, they have a very long battery life and there are millions of very tidy second hand lenses available for them.

I still think the Nikon D850 was the best all round camera ever invented. I hope, for Nikon’s sake, that the Z8 is so good that it can take over that position.

The Z9 is likely the best pro-mirrorless around today and at a good price. However, I suspect that Canon have held off launching their inevitable R1 pro-mirrorless because they’re close to being able to launch something groundbreaking.

I think that Canon has missed the mirrorless train and Nikon almost did the same thing. Sony did its homework well and took all the cake, now Nikon is climbing positions, but I honestly think that Canon is fighting for bronze.

D3 is working fine, that machine is a tank like D4 and D3x, same quality. With a new battery En-El4a and one new cr1616 for the clock, working as 2007.

Hats off to the authentic Nikon flagships, they are very solid. B)

Normally people are very apprehensive about buying second-hand cameras with a lot of shots, but if it is from a private individual, and you can see it and try it before, I think it is just as safe as a store since with second-hand objects stores tend to escape/evade their limits "Responsibilities" if there is a problem after a few months.

Any models like D3 supports a lot of use and shots, you need to inform before about the camera, 200k shots in other models could be a problem.

WWW like this helps :

nikon d3 | Camera Shutter Life Database

Nikon D3 Shutter Life

Very Important what do the last owner with the camera, in the shop you don't know this data, only you know the number of shots and the price.

Only you know that the shop "test it" usually very fast check, before buy it and rated by appearance, usually the external appearance rules for the items at shops.

In private sales, you can meet the previous owner and have a feeling about the seller and the story about the item and check and test more than one shop.

In my experience, the shops are usefully to buy brand-new cameras or lens, but second hand the risk sometimes is higher, and you need to read carefully what kind of warranty have for second hand items, or you will pay more for an item with the same warranties that a private sale "NONE".

For the moment, the camera D3 is working fine as expected, I will use it as main camera during September to check it well, later would be my backup camera.

No idea what the shutter count of my 7D is, Canon didn’t put the shutter count in the EXIF data. Apparently there is some service software that can display it but I don’t know any. Canon dealers near me.

First try to use the online App bellow, if not works, do that canon says.

App Utility to check online the shutter of Canon, Nikon, Sony etc....

Camera Shutter Count

Canon
  1. Turn on your camera and connect it to your computer using a USB cable.
  2. Open the EOS Utility software on your computer.
  3. Click on the “Camera Settings” tab.
  4. In the “Camera Settings” window, click on the “Shutter Count” button.
  5. The shutter count will be displayed in the “Shutter Count” window.

Thanks Lupe.

Shutter Count says the camera does not include shutter count data and you need software to read it from the body.

My only desktop computer is an old iMac, so if I can find an old copy of the Canon Utility Software, I may be able to do it that way.

UPDATE

Apparently there’s a Shutter Count Mobile App for iPad which works with the 7D. If I ever want to know my shutter count badly enough to spend £7.99 that’s what I’ll do! :D

Note : Nikkor 35mm f/2 AI-s is sharp as knife and can create nice bokeh if needed, I think it's an interesting lens and combo well with D3, the 12mpx are perfect for this kind of photos, sometimes less is more.

Background: the dog is not mine, I found it and photo him, I do this to attract possible customers of one future photo session, this time I have one very hard and difficult lens for portraits one 35mm, I need to be close to the dog and of course after the photo, the dog licks me for 10 minutes impossible to continue doing photos with that lens.

Note : Dedicated to John aka Dogbytes, You know it's hard to close focus one dog with a 35mm wide lens, but if you success you have a cute photo.
