Hi everyone!

I am looking to see if I can get some input regarding a possible upgrade. I am currently using the d3500. I am a ringside photographer for local independent wrestling promotions. I have been doing it for a little over a year now. I would like to upgrade my camera in the hopes that it can lower time spent editing. Many of the venues we use are low light areas and I need to be able to capture the action as it is happening. I am debating between the z6 ii and the D7500. I am trying to stay around the price range of the z6 ii. I figured this would be a great place to get input on which camera would be the better option. Thank you so much!

I think I can guess which direction most of the advice is going to go! The Z6ii is a completely different animal, to the D7500 and the Z platform is the way to go to build on in the future, in every way. However, make sure you budget for a decent, fairly wide aperture lens to go on it. It’s the combination of body and lens that will make the biggest difference.

Let’s us how how you decide.

What lenses do you have for the D3500?

I tend to agree with dogbytes on this. In the long run, I think the Z6II would probably be a better purchase. Nikon isn't showing much love to the old DSLR market these days. The future will almost certainly be mirrorless.

That said, there are still some pretty nice DSLR's available... including direct from Nikon. And, the question Peter asked about your lens cache is a valid one. If you have a large stash of F mount glass, then sticking with a recent DSLR might make sense. Especially if you can get a good deal on a prosumer body such as the D500 or D850. I'm not including the D7500 because I believe Nikon gelded it (ie, removed too many features that were in previous D7xxx cameras), although I understand that it gives very good image quality. And, of course, since it's a DX camera, all your current D3500 lenses work.
