Hi folks, I haveva d800 and a new 300 mm pf lens. I am not happy with the IQ I am getting with this lens. I have used many lenses with this body and all have provided great results I.e. 70-200 f2.8 vr ii, 24-120 f4 vr, 50mm af-s f1.4, 24mm af-s f1.8, 2 x tc to name a few. The photos I got from the 70-200 f2.8 both on its own and with the 2x tc were excellent. Lots of bird photos etc. I changed to the 300 af-s pf thinking this would be at least as sharp but it is not the case. The images are a bit soft, wide open or stopped down. I have read about vr issues with the d800 with early versions of the lens but mine is a late serial number. I have tried vr off, on a tripod, high shutter speeds, no uv filter, with a nikon uv filter. I have focussed manually both through the finder and in live view. The only thing I have not tried is mirror up to stop shutter slap which I believe the d800 can suffer from? I tried one of these lenses on my d800 at a nikon event and was similarly disappointed. Everything I read about this lens says it is sharp. I am thinking of upgrading to a d500 or d780 as I think it is the body / lens combo that is causing issues. I am interested to see if anyone else has had this sort of problem
