DSC_2340.JPG I bought a Nikon Z6 II camera back in December 2022. Immediately the photos (compared to my D5200) seem sharper at first viewing but when I bring them in close the pixelization is obnoxious. I kept thinking it was my imagination but I just compared to some older photos (D5200) and it definitely seems to be a problem. I can't even use the "tone mapping" feature on my Affinity Editing program because it just exaggerates the pixelization. My camera setting is for 6064 x 4040 pixels with 300 dpi.
I'm willing to share comparison photos if anyone is interested.

UPDATE:

Attached is a uncropped jpeg of a sparrow that I took at 190mm with my 200mm f/2.8 lens from about 10 ft away.  It was a gray day with more backlight then front light and taken around 3pm in the afternoon.  EXIF data...  f/3.5, 1/800 shutter speed and ISO 320. The camera brings in light very well, However, notice how jagged the edges are when zooming in closer to the bird.  This is typical of what I'm seeing with this camera.     I can't sharpen much or it makes things ridiculously pixelated.

If you're expecting help with this problem some photos, with EXIF data would probably be helpful. I don't personally own any mirrorless camera so anything I say would probably be of little value in any case.

Do you shoot in .jpg or .NEF?

I don't think I could produce those jaggies without shooting in jpg with a ridiculous amount of sharpening applied in the picture control.

If you shoot in .NEF, what are your raw settings? Bit depth and type of compression might affect how the raw converter in Affinity reads the file.

Have you tried another raw converter? NX Studio is free...
