Instead of a new post every Monday, let's go with a permanent post that is open to add to when somebody has monochrome Monday content to share.

Please share your exposure data and something about the monochrome conversion, for example a reference to what software you used and a recipe or just what look you were after. If you did something extra with lighting or anything else, please tell us how...

Today, captured on the way to get a galette for supper.

People looked so wonderfully miserable in the driving snow, waiting for late buses.

Here is the original, unedited except for the crop colour file.

The SEP recipe:

gallery_1251_849_221069.jpg

... and the final result.

Model: NIKON Z 6_2
Lens: Z Nikkor 24-70 S
Lens (mm): 32.5
ISO: 100
Aperture: 9

The look I was after: HP5 in ID-11, red filter, Kentmere warmtone FB in Dektol, strongish selenium toning.

The starting point, SOOC, neutral picture control equivalent.

gallery_1251_849_817294.jpg

Raised saturation to get a bit more compressed colours to play with for the monochrome conversion. Tonemapped and cropped in this stage.

The Silver Efex PRO recipe.

The starting point, SOOC, except for cropping:

gallery_1251_849_184135.jpg

Model: NIKON Z fc
Lens: Z Nikkor 16-50 DX kit lens
Lens (mm): 50
ISO: 100
Aperture: 7.1
Shutter: 1/200
Exp. Comp.: -0.3

SEP recipe:

gallery_1251_849_163043.jpg

The final result:

gallery_1251_849_392632.jpg

The 178° filter is chosen because it is slightly to the green side from cyan, which will darken the reddish rails and the distracting yellow sign at the same time as it lightens the bridge arches, increasing contrast in the middle ground. The processing mimics how I would have shot, developed and copied in the wet darkroom. The very slight yellow paper tone is done to mimic Kentmere's normal glossy baryta paper dried with the emulsion side towards the linen cloth in the drier. High-gloss prints on this paper looked whiter.

No filtering on this one - just straight conversion in PhotoScape + adjustment of contrast.

I had to adjust the filter strength after selecting a more modern film emulation than I usually use.
