I used my old Nikkor 43-86mm for fun in the street, It was funny because I don't mind finding this rare old can in shop showcase. Sometimes the photos find you.

This lens is so unique to create antique 35 mm film camera effect using DSLR.

You can find cheap in E-bay and still great for artistic photos or just for fun and create interesting photo effects.

Which version of this lens do you have? AFAIK, there were four distinct versions. The first was singlecoated, the second was multicoated, the third was completely redesigned optically with 11 elements instead of the earlier 9 and the final version was the Ai. The 11-element version has 7 aperture blades, so diffraction stars have 14 spikes instead of the 6 spikes caused by the 6 aperture blades in the 9-element lens.

I think that I used the AI version, this one in the link below. But in the other hand, I found that I have also the Auto non AI with the intern silver ring that I used in My Nikon F3.

My first camera in the early '80s was a well used Nikon F2 with the 43-86mm lens. That was the worst zoom lenses Nikon ever made. But that kit made me a Nikon user for life.

The early days of zoom lenses had such a bad rap for quality that it was a long time before pros went to zooms.
