Hello,

Just bought a used Tamron 24-70mm 2.8 G1, Nikon F mount. Under a microscope, there's black border around the particle but there's also opaque whitish area outside and next to the black border. Can you tell me if this is fugus? This 'spot' is inside the lens, between the front of the lens and the blades so it can't be cleaned unless the lens is disassembled. If it's fungus, I can return it. Thank you.

This is a proper place to post it.
To my eye, this looks more like pollen than fungus. There is a contamination inside the lens, but it won’t grow and not contaminate other lenses if I am right. Fungus usually forms in a web-like pattern, not in clumps.

I don't think it's fungus either.
I've seen a few lenses with ' growth ' as Peter described. Fortunately only one of them was mine.

The most important, It's if check doesn't appear anything nasty in the photos.

Then you decide if everything is OK or not.

Don't worry too much, usually dust, scratches and some coat damage don't affect the photo quality, try to use filter to prevent more dust or damage and enjoy it.

In the other hand, fungus in the lens border usually don't cause problems, when it's invaded in to the lens center.... yes a lot.

Always can try to kill the fungus with UV light or sunlight, or pay to professional clean.
