Hello everyone

I'm new in Nikon world, before I always use Canon cameras

I bought a used Nikon D5300 with Nikon AF-P Nikkor 18-55 1:3.5-5.6G DX VR kit lens and Nikon AF-S Nikkor 16-85 1:3.5-5.6G ED DX VR lens.

With kit lens camera works flawlessly but with AF-S 16-85 I have problem with internal flash, camera is freezing when I want to use flash :(
are AF-S lense not compatible with D5300?

Hello @Vatato

Welcome to the forum

To answer your question: AF-S lenses ARE compatible with the D5x00 cameras.

As you bought the camera used - and thus it being older - and the kit lens working fine, have a look at the electric contacts on the lens, but also on the camera side. Best is to give them a clean with DeOxit gold (or a similar product for cleaning electric contacts) to remove oxydation, which may have occured over time.

But in order to give you even better advice, can you tell whether the lens only creates issues when trying to use the flash, or whether it also has other issues.

Problem is only with flash, rest works fine

I use Postimages — free image hosting / image upload and then copy the direct link, next click the image link in the tool bar on your post, then paste the direct link there.
