Hello Andrew

I've never looked at this before on my D800, but I see that moving the AF /M focus switch on the front, moves the drive dog / shaft into or out of the lens mount. I wonder if this happening on your D2x, or is it stuck in-wards?

The D2X has the earlier, more fragile aperture ring coupling that is easily damaged when servicing anything related to the lens mount. I would leave this service to the pros who have insurance if something breaks during the service.
