Love the look of the new, black-finish Zfc. However I just checked on Nikon UK’s site where a silver one is £799 and a black one £899!

So not only is the styling retro but so, it appears, is the pricing structure. I can remember back in the day when a black FM body was thirty quid more expensive than a silver one!

I very much doubt that the Zfc black version is actually painted like the FM/FE used to be, but the black FM/FE's were made of black painted brass, where as the silver (chrome) version were just stamped and polished steel, I suppose that process added to the price.

I like the look of the black Zfc too. Whether it's enough to coax cash out of my pockets is another matter entirely. The extra cost doesn't help.

I've never actually looked at a Zfc but I imagine it's exterior is fashioned out of plastic as is the case with it's big brothers. Too bad it's not black anodized like my beautiful Minolta XD-11.

The chassis is cast in magnesium alloy, the top cover is metal along with the dials that are machined out of aluminium.

We can always hope that the top cover gets an anodized brass-coloured layer under a black enamel top coat. A finish like that would age beautifully and is in line with the price premium on the black version.

Yes, that would be nice. I think it’s unlikely though!

The price they’re asking is very close to the price of a used Df - and I’ve always liked the Df.

Just imagine a digital Nikon looking like this after a bit of use.

I never liked the Df enough to get one. It’s too bad that they decided to stop the reliance on focus groups that had been such an important part of their process ever since the F2.

The only thing I dislike about the Zfc is that there is no AutoISO setting on the ISO wheel and going into the menus just to activate it is just wrong for the rest of the UX.

The thing about the Auto-ISO setting does seem strange, although I tend to leave my cameras on Auto-ISO all the time anyway.

I’ve never even seen a Df except in pictures but I liked the look of it. More importantly it had the D4 sensor and I always liked that sensor.

I was disappointed in the DF. What I was hoping for was an actual FM (or FE) with digital innards. Something similar to what Leitz did with the digital Leica. What Nikon brought to market always seemed a bit clunky although it did have some nice specs. I was also hoping that Nikon would build a modest system around the camera with grips, etc. What we got seemed to be more of a tribute camera than anything else. The fact that Nikon only produced one camera bearing that name seems to confirm this idea. No DF2 for you!

The Zfc seems a bit closer to what I envisioned. Especially, the new black one. It still isn't perfect but I'm guessing it'll fly off the shelves this holiday season. Unfortunately, I have the same misgivings about this camera with regards to it's longevity in the Nikon lineup. Actually, I'm surprised it's still around.

I like the black version. One more reason to consider it.

I wasn't expecting it to be delivered just yet, but a nice surprise for it to be delivered this morning

I will wait until the 24 compact DX lens is out to get my second Zfc. It will probably be the black version. I hope to get some kind of combo price…

I'll get that done in the next few days, I've been busy today, as I'm remodeling my office, it's taking a little longer than anticipated.

I ordered one today with the 16-50. I sold my Z50 to a friend and will replace it with this one. It is so intuitive to use after so many years with F2 and FE2 cameras. I have also ordered both a half-case for this one and the arca plate with the extra grip for both cameras. I will dye the half-case and hope it looks nice when I am finished with it.

It looks great. I’m just getting poorer, so I won’t be ordering one but I’m happy to admire everyone else’s. I reckon it would go nicely with the recently released 26mm pancake. Hope you’re enjoying it.
