I recently purchased a used SB-900 replacing my SB-800.  The SB-900 will not use the rechargeable Energizer batteries that I have used in the SB-800. Flash always reports batteries are discharged.

Any one have the same issues with rechargable batteries in the SB-900? or is this purchase a dud.

If I remember correctly, the internal resistance in most Energiservice rechargeables is quite high. This will make the voltage drop a bit too much when the capacitors recharge. Before you give up on the speedlite, try a set of the black, high-current eneloops.

Energiservice should, of course, be Energizer. My iPotato tried to be helpful.
