No US retailer claims these are available; B&H and Adorama stating "discontinued," but Nikon USA says it is not archived, just remains backordered. List price is $479; I have seen prices on eBay and Amazon exceeding $800, which seems out of ballpark. Perhaps these are USA models that some have second hand? There are many import/grey market units for $400 or less; mostly from Japan. I asked NikonUSA about these; they are adamant they would not service them in the States if they needed repair, but if it was sent to a Japanese service center, they could be worked on. Other photog friends said Canon will service grey for a price, but not Nikon. A shame. The RAW capability of the A1000, and compact size, makes it interesting. I generally use a D500 (full USA model) as my bigger DSLR.

Nikon Sweden show all coolpixes except P950, P1000, B500 and S4400 as discontinued.
It seems that both Panasonic and Nikon are closing down production of all compacts except the really high end because of the competition from cellphones.

Not surprisingly, really. Of course I still love traditional cameras; I kind of expect SLR to bow out for the mirrorless
(still too pricey for me), and I even like my very small Coolpix S6800, my pocket "paddock" camera for the race track. I continue to use my D500 as often as I can
