Hello. First post here and excited to be part of the community! I received my Z9 a month ago and although impressed with it's capability overall I'm noticing what I consider a lot of noise in my images at relatively low ISO (320, 400 etc...) I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this? Would love to hear your thoughts on what might be causing the noisy picture. Shot on both the 200-500 F mount with FTZ II adapter and the 105 Z mount.DSC_5171.JPG DSC_8190.JPG DSC_5023.JPG

Which raw converter do you use?

Have you tried raising the ISO a little bit higher? Some earlier Nikons are cleaner above 640 than around 400.

Hi Peter.  Thanks for the reply.  I opened the files in NX Studio.  Yes I have shot with higher ISO in lower light but notice more noise once I get above 1000.  From what you've experienced, does the noise in these photos look 'normal' to you for the Z9 or similar full frame camera?

Looking at the DR plot at dxomark, there is a dip in DR right at 400 ISO. This usually corresponds to excessive noise in real life situations at the same sensitivity. I would guess that you have a sweet spot for s/n between 640 and 800 ISO and that it starts getting noisier linearly from there on. I haven’t used a Z9 yet, so I don’t have any personal experience.

If that dip is there, the noise level is about normal.

Thom Hogan’s book on the Z9 probably has a couple of chapters on the sensor if he has followed his standard pattern.

That's really interesting.  Thanks, Peter.  I'll check out that book.
