I have a D5600 and I prefer to use the Viewfinder rather than the Liveview,  I'm struggling to find the control to use the viewfinder when shooting video, I can't seem to find the right setting. on My P1000 it was straight forward. I'm beginning to think there is no setting for this option.. Please correct me if i'm wrong..   Thanks

I think you're up against two different camera systems.

The P1000 has an electronic viewfinder, so the video output can be viewed on the rear screen or the EVF.

The D5600 viewfinder uses a mirror system and not electronics. There's no way to route a video signal to the viewfinder.

The fact that it uses a mirror means it must be raised to use the sensor. Thus, the viewfinder will be unusable whilst the sensor is gathering images.
