A well done to all who participated in the first week of Monochrome Monday!

I hope everyone's learning a few things, myself I'm expanding my B&W skills with Affinity Photo, (gotta get more familiar with that gradiant map).

A new week and a new opportunity to shoot and process some monochrome images!  Let us know how you process them and please show your color image if applicable.

A few photos from what many consider the master of B&W landscape photography, Ansel Adams.  Enjoy!

Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico or go home.  :P

Actually, it's unfortunate that some of these images have been cropped. Tetons and Snake River, in particular suffer by having the bottom third cut off. But, you're right. Ansel Adams was the master of black and white photography, and his books... particularly those that deal with his zone system are still worth the (sometimes considerable) effort to read.

Oh, and speaking of Moonrise... I had an occasion once to view a print of that negative done by the Master Himself. I still get butterflies just thinking about it.

Here is the original:

gallery_1251_849_403967.jpg

Model: NIKON Z 6_2
Lens: Nikon Z 35/1.8 S
Lens (mm): 35
ISO: 449
Aperture: 3.5
Shutter: 1/250
Exp. Comp.: +0.7

SOOC monochrome:

gallery_1251_849_249214.jpg

Converted with SEP:

gallery_1251_849_522882.jpg

Recipe:

Filter: Slightly purplish, nearly blue. Blue is presented as 240°, my setting as 246° on the colour wheel.

Film emulation: Ilford PAN F +

Toning preset: Selenium Strong

Paper Hue: Yellowish, 58°

Vignette: Lens Falloff 10%

Information in zones 0 to 8

The filter and film emulation renders greens very dark and reds quite light in tone. I was after the feel of a classic Goth rock album cover.

Yesterday all you saw was a cartouche on the rifle's original stock.  Here's the entire rifle, minus the original stock.  The stock on the rifle is ''glass'' bedded for target shooting and a post war arsenal refinish while preserving the original.

I don't know why my reply to your post shows on my post instead of another post. It's odd and I can't figure it out. But here it is.

I like the high contrast and dark tones of your 2nd B/W image.

I have found that the forum software sometimes appends a new post to the previous if we post in the same thread again with too little time elapsed between postings. I don’t know what that time threshold is.

Thanks for the comment.

Not much to report for this spot / week.

I blame:

My wife's sister for visiting

Quantas Airline for bringing her over to us. (She's very nice, really.)

Thanks I'll edit my post and delete my comment about your photo from it. But my comment about the B/W boom still stands Peter. 'I like the high contrast and dark tones of your 2nd B/W image.'

Thanks, lightcapture.  Due to the heat we've been suffering around here lately, I decided to do this quick on pegs I put in the shop's outer wall. I installed the pegs some years ago to the outer of my shop to take photos of rifles and shotguns.  I've taken quite a few on these pegs.  I had planned covering a table with a G.I. blanket, laying the rifle and it's WWII ''kit''.   Maybe when it's cooler...
