I'm looking for a cheap, somewhat light, decent travel tripod for my D750 w/ afp70-300E lens for vacations or local nature preserve. I'm not looking for perfection, just something decent I can get by with. I wish I could do better, but I just can't.

What is inexpensive in your world? What type of head do you like? Are you looking for a tripod as a compositional aid or mostly for long exposures? ARCA or boutique quick releases? 
 

 

With these questions in mind, Vanguard or Sirui both tend to be very good value for money even if they are in different price brackets. Induro and Benro both make very good legs, but their heads have been hit-or-miss as the quality control has been more or less missing. I don’t know if that has changed.

 best tip i can give and prove it too. always go to true camera store test out tripods. get one that will hold more then you need. since each tripod is different for each person. i went out order tripod amazon said top seller and best bang for your buck it sucked and did turn out good. but got luck from adorama. since two tripods they sent best i ever had. also did not skimp on them when free item. in till to see in your hand to fell it and weight. might not be for you. not sure want one that turns in to monopod or not. not sure how high you want tripod too. i can not bend over for long period of time do to face how i hurt my back from 100lb cart falling on me busied back so bad. if have to bend over for long time in that same spot will cause back to go out again. also have bum left foot where tendon in heel bone will get swore and swollen if do not keep wait off it.

Last year I bought a Vanguard tripod, (Vanguard Alta Pro+2 263AB100) for it's extended height.  I wanted something I didn't have to stoop down for when shooting the night sky.  It's not exactly light, but it's sturdy and has all the features I wanted, it did come with a well built bag with a shoulder strap though. 

 

Over-all I think you'll get your money's worth the VEO 2 235AB and it's a lot lighter than the one I bought.

I don't shoot using a tripod very often but I bought this one a few years ago to use with Nikon's heavyweight (1.415 kg) Coolpix P1000 camera. It has an integrated monopod and comes with a carry bag with a shoulder strap. I find it to be sturdy and versatile but light enough to not wear you out.
