Hi, My significant other is desperately trying to buy a Z 100-400, it is currently out of stock everywhere and I'm under the impression it has never been available here in Europe. I saw a few references to actual users on the internet, but I don't know if they are just fantasies or from the select few user of pre-release lenses or real, paying customers. Has anyone actually seen or handled a 100-400 or is it just vapourware at this point?

Every retailer has a waiting list for them. Currently, it seems that people who ordered mid-january are finally getting their lenses. The waiting times seem to be similar in the US as it is here in Europe.

 

It seems like Nikon has gone with a first come, first served policy for this lens as the delays hit NPS members just like ordinary customers.

B&H Photo Video here in the states list this lens as a "New Item; Coming Soon." Adorama list it as being, I believe,"On Backorder." Amazon shows "buying options" which are a few used lenses for sale (no idea where those used lenses came from but I would beware). No new lenses are listed. The Nikon Store US also list this lens as being backordered... however, they'll happily take your order anyway.

Panamoz appear to have stock, BUT they're offering them at £100 above the Nikon direct price.

If I wanted one, principles would stop me buying theirs!

then that gray market one. if not same as price as nikon then then gray market and not from your area. all lenses and camera should be same price as brand price. if different not from that area and gray market.

That's right Chris - Panamoz are a 100% grey dealer.

They can offer a sizable discount to UK buyers over UK suppliers.

 

It's for the buyer to decide how they spend their money.

The only difference is they somehow have stock of the lens being discussed, but no one else appears to!

was not sure he knew that or was brought up. also getting sigma 120-300mm nikon lens soon and will test it out since have river to take photo of birds flying around or dolphins in river swimming.

Sounds like you have a very nice location with plenty to see.

i live spot where only 3min walk from river. and where i take photo of rocket launches since only 45mm from Kennedy space center too.

Thanks for your replies! They seem to match what I found out on my own. My SO placed a pre-order at a big French dealer around mid-march, all they are able to tell her at the moment is "we are waiting for Nikon France, no more info". I'm afraid she won't get it before the summer. Maybe next year?
