I was hot to trot to get this model when I first read about it. Now, after such an agonizing delay waiting for it to hit the market, the sizzle is gone. Nikon is STILL out of stock and i’m tired of waiting. My Z 7 might not have all the new features, but it still captures the same hi-quality image as the Z 9… so I’m keeping it, and my $6,999.

This seems to be a problem with tech companies. Whip the buyers into a frensy over the latest new model that's just round the corner, then delay release.
Having the top of the range always seems a good idea - but no good if you can't actually buy it!
This isn't a problem for me, because I'm really, really tight!
We had a house meeting last week to discus the possibility of buying a new saucepan.
I was against it.

Nikon Rumors reported a day or two ago that Amazon had Z9's in stock and were selling them at MSRP. However, by the time I had gotten around to reading emails (I'm sometime very bad about checking my mail!!) Nikon Rumors had updated the report to say that Amazon had completely sold out.
As to whether I would be interested in a Z9. Well, yes... if I had the disposable cash laying around. Sure, why not? If you've had your ear to the wire, you know that mirrorless is the future of Nikon cameras. They have been dropping F mount lenses from their inventory right and left. Even very recent lenses are being dropped while every new lens announcement features Z mount lenses.
The Z9 has gotten, from what I've read, rave reviews. Camera of the year, etc. Nikon has stated that, going forward, it's photographic focus (see what I did there?) will be prosumer cameras and lenses. Read, high end... read expensive... etc. And, I believe that's not necessarily a bad thing. Back in the olden days, there was the F. If you wanted to shoot Kodachrome in your Nikon camera, that was pretty much it. And, if you were carrying an F around your neck, you knew that you had the best. Yeah, there was the Nikkorex and there was the S rangefinder, but pros were using the F and Nikon was a company that catered to pros. The Z9 seems to carry that same vibe.
I do expect them to continue with cameras such as the ZFc which has been very successful, and their other mirrorless cameras, and I expect to see a mirrorless replacement for the D850 any time now. But, I would be very surprised to see another DSLR from Nikon.
