Hi! First post here at NikonForums as I'm still fairly new to DLSR photography (hence my creating this thread in the Beginner Question forum) and am basically getting to know my Nikon D750. I'm a little bit confused about focus in Live View versus the viewfinder. With the viewfinder (I'm using AF S, by the way), there is a relatively narrow range within which I can move the little focus square and therefore pick my focus point. In Live View, though, I can move the square around the entire screen. Does this not imply that I simply have far more options to choose from in terms of where to focus when using Live View? In which case, why would one ever NOT use it when focusing? Just want to see if I'm missing something here. Thank you!

Viewfinder AF (at least on the D750) is going to be much faster overall, particularly for moving subjects.  However, live view AF can be more accurate, especially if you're able to take your time and tell the camera exactly where to focus.

Got it, thank you! If I could just add one quick follow-up, what happens if I pick my focus point in Live View but then turn Live View off? Does the point I pick remain in place or does that start the process over again, almost as if there are two separate focusing systems? Thanks again.
