Please could you tell me why, when, and where, you would use the zoom button on the camera.

Its obviously there for a reason but I cant see what.

I am no doubt missing out on something.

Cheers

What camera?

What do you mean by the zoom button?

If it is the controls for zooming in playback mode, this is very useful to check focus.

Cameras D7500, D850, Z7ii, the two buttons are on the camera body, ie a magnifying glass symbol, one to zoom in and the other to zoom back out.

They can be very useful for focusing manually in live view as well as enlarging the photo in playback to check that you got the focus plane exactly where you wanted it.

When I'm shooting macros at fairly high magnification ratios I rely on the zoom button (in conjunction with Live View) to help me nail the focus. And, again after I take the shot to be sure I've nailed the focus.

And, yeah, I'm a chimper when doing regular photography. I'm always looking down at my display after pressing the shutter button to make sure I've got what I want. That zoom button really comes in handy.

Cheers guys. Making sense now.

Just to recap, the camera is set to Live View and mounted on a tripod, the lens is set to Manual, you use zoon-in button to (say taking a woodland scene), zoom-in to a tree trunk at mid field depth and manually focus the lens on that tree trunk. Then zoom-out using other button, back to full viewfinder view and take photo, knowing that the lens is still focused exactly on the tree trunk.

Have I got it right ????
