Hello,

I am attempting to do some slide copying with my D700.  I am using a 60mm Macro lens and the ES-1 attachment.

Unfortunately it does not focus.  I removed the ES-1 and manually held it a few inches in front of the lens and it will focus ok there.

I was under the impression that I would not need a bellows or extension ring with this lens.  Or am I doing something wrong?

Many thanks for any help!

I don't use the ES-1 but if you have it attached using the BR-5 adapter, I believe it should work. It looks like the 60mm lens you're using is the old 'D' version and, if so, that's the lens that Nikon recommends for use with the ES-1. You shouldn't need any other extensions.

I do use the ES-2 set and I know that copier can be finicky with the 60mm 'D' but it does work.

The BR-5 is probably slightly taller than the step ring you use. The ES-1 was originally made for the 55/2.8 MicroNikkor with PK-13 and needs the BR-5 to get the correct position for the slide.
