An ultra fasst aperture, manual focus lens. The maximum aperture of F1.2 allows for photos with a very shallow depth of field. The lens has an aperture ring and is well suited for video. On FX-format cameras the lens has a classic "normal" field of view and is suited for general photogrraphy. On a DX-format camera the lens is a shot tele suitable for portraits.

Wide-Open, ISO 12,800, 1/50th second. This lens is great, one of the few manual focus super-speed lenses still in production. This one was bought "almost new", has a very recent serial number.

This lens entered production in the late 70s, replaced the Nikkor 55/1.2 Ai which first came out in single-coated, non-Ai ~1965. That lens has great performance over the center 2/3rds of the image. This one is sharper edge-to-edge.
