I have a d850 and want to capture a tutorial from a laptop. All the web pages I see relate to sending to a computer not  capturing from the computer Can I do this? If so a brief how would be appreciated.

Are you just trying to record what's on your screen?  If so, you won't actually need a camera for that.  On Windows, pressing Windows+G will open up the screen recording options.

 

If you're trying to capture the video coming out of the camera (i.e., for a live stream), you would need a capture card:
