I use a D7000, almost almost always with available light, occasionally with the built-in flash, very rarely with an external flash, partially because it has been so frustrating. I have Vivitar DF-383-NIK and 484 flashes. I got them out again, hoping to use them for a Christmas family portrait with no luck. The TTL metering seems not to work at all, either on the shoe, or wirelessly. I've set the camera to both TTL and Commander modes, and the flash to regular and slave modes in all combinations. When the flash does fire, it seems only to be full power. The camera metering system doesn't seem to see the flash, as it sets for the available lighting. I can use them in Manual mode (or fractional power) OK, but the wireless triggering doesn't work terribly well either, unless the sensor is pointed pretty much at the camera. Since they both behave pretty much the same way, it seems like they're just not compatible, but they're supposed to be. Does anyone have any experience with them?

Aren’t they on-camera iTTL compatible but not CLS/AWL? This means that they can be used with auto exposure in the hotshoe, but not as remotes. They should work reasonably well with the Godox shoe-mount radio triggers, though.
