Wanting to get a fish eye lens (just for trying new  and different shots) I shoot a F4 mostly B&W. What is a good lens to look for don't need a expensive one? Also how do you know if you are buying a grey market lens? What to look for when  searching ebay or some other on line camera shop? Thanks Bob

The Ai- coupled and chipped current version of the Samyang/Rokinon 12 mm framefilling FX fish is a good one. If you want a Nikkor, the old Ai16/3.5 has a more extreme fisheye projection than the current AF16/2.8. Unfortunately, the 8-15 has electronic aperture control and won’t work on older bodies.

Hello Bob

with reference to 'grey' imports, lenses intended for the U.S. market have US at the start of the serial number. The info on the site below is handy for checking intended market for Nikon bodies, but less so for lenses:

I own one Nikon 16mm f/3.5 Fisheye-NIKKOR with the AI Nikon's factory kit and works perfect in my Nikon F3, and it's perfect for B&W photos because of the 3 build in filters that the lens have.

I enjoy using it increases my artistic creativity with the MF, and it's incredible old school quality, one of my favorite lenses of my personal collection.

Furthermore, I never regret of my 16mm fisheye choice. I used another fisheye with AF from friends that share the lenses with me, and this reaffirms myself about my choice.

Likewise, I really recommend it, I used in my Nikon D4 and works with awesome results, I prefer it to the new version AF16mm f/2.8D,if you want more info check the link below. ;)

Nikon 16mm f/3.5 Fisheye Review

:excl: Note: I found my 16mm in eBay time ago...this kind of lenses sometimes are very hard to find in second hand shops cos are bizarre and usually the person that own one not sell it in this kind of shops.

If you use eBay, use PayPal as well for more protection from sellers in case that any shit happens. -_-

I had to laugh when I read that - you really have to be SO careful when buying anything there. I tend to only buy from dealers with a warranty now.

In eBay, If you don't use PayPal better, you use a holy bible and pray a lot.... May God listen as you pray. And the deal finish OK.

I try to use eBay as less as possible believe me, but sometimes it's the only possible way... but often you found the rare item there so no more choices, same as Amazon and all this kind of Internet places for second hand opportunities.

I tend to often buy from dealers with all warranties too if it's possible or the money difference is not too much, but old physical stores stuff is limited sometimes and if you like second hand and old classic rare lenses you need to be sometimes a bit risky and succumb to the tentation of eBay or other Internet platforms.

Of course if I am looking for new stuff I will use for sure a physical store or this kind of store with all the possible warranties.

I'm not a masochist gambling addict :P I hope  .......

I think we all take risks - sometimes.

Who can say they haven't stood in front of a speeding train - just to get 'the shot'?  :o

A softer option can be buying on some of the more respected forums, be it photography, or other interests.

I bought my D800E by that means.

..... Buy me a second-hand camera on eBay is risky enough for me too. Highly Not recommended if your heart is fragile, too many shits can happen.

Second hand cameras only I bought in private sale from another photographer or in store. Not too much difference in prices from eBay. You always can say the magical words " In Ebay the price is $$$  ..... " :D and try for a discount or something.

I like to try well the camera if everything is OK or not. In the other hand, the price from second hand cameras lately is not too nice in eBay or other Internet sites and always cameras with a lot of shutter counts that scare me a lot.

I am already working in it, I already contacted a private photographer that wants to sell Nikon D5, if he still has it in autumn be sure I will try to buy it with a lil discount.

And upgrade my camera equipment again. :P
