I've just dig out my old F70 and having put in a new battery am eager to try it out again. I mounted my Nikkor AF-S 55-200 f4-5.6 G ED DX lens and want to know if/how I can use the camera with this lens in aperture priority mode given you cannot manually change the aperture on the lens>

Grateful for advice.

The 55-200 is one of the least suitable modern lenses on the pre-F5 bodies as it isn't only a G lens, but a DX lens as well.

The G designation means that it doesn't have an aperture ring and depends on the controls in the camera that were introduced with the F5 and F100.

DX means that it isn't made to fill the full 42 mm image circle of a 24x36 mm neg or slide. The same goes for FX digital.

It will vignette like crazy and you can only use it in P(rogram) or S(hutter priority).

If you want to put together a vintage-typical lightweight lens kit for the F70, an AF 28-80D New with the wider focus ring and an AF 70-210D would match the camera well, work well with digital bodies with a focus motor and are usually easy to find used as they were often sold as kits with the F70 or as a low-cost option with the F90.

Ah, right. Yes, I have the original Tamron 28-80 that I bought at the same time as the F70 but am after a longer zoom . I'll look at getting the AF70-210D, as you suggest. Thank you.
