I was out today and got caught in a 10 minute mild drizzle.  I took a few pictures in the rain and then put the lens cap back on.  I later took some more pics and didn't have any problems with the camera.

 

Do I need to be more careful in the future with light rain and safely stow the camera in my knapsack?  What about longer periods of heavy rain.  If the lens cap is on and I walk around with the camera on my neck strap, can rain get inside and damage the camera?

Had a quick look at the reference manual for the B600, but there's no mention of it being sealed against moisture.

I would have thought the zoom lens would be a quick route for rain to enter.

I always keep any electronic device out of the rain.

No, Nikon Coolpix B600 doesn't have Weather Sealing.

According to the Nikon USA, most of today’s digital cameras are designed to do well in weather down to at least freezing, and that includes Nikon DSLRs and Z series mirrorless as well as COOLPIX point & shoot cameras. Unless you’re going to be photographing in the Arctic or Antarctica you should be fine. 

But in terms of rain, Nikon has its own drawbacks. The Coolpix B600 is not environmentally sealed against dust and moisture; keep that in mind in the rain and on the beach.
