I suppose it's not surprising that Joan of Arc is omnipresent in churches and chapels in France.

Of course, being a hero and saint or a villain depends a lot on who wrote the history books but for me, as an uninvolved observer (*) - neither English nor French, she was a woman who beat the men in their century old "games".

The first feminist so to speak.

In the Abbey Church of Saint Martial de Paunat there was a statue of Joan of Arc as well.

I find the first two to give a very different feel.

(*) come to think of it, perhaps not totally uninvolved: at that time our region was under Burgundy rule and they were allied with the English  :)

Politics

I wonder why your post doesn't appear on the front page?

The first one… delicious!

Excellent work, Bart!

Yes, mixing politics and religion is particularly dangerous!

… knowing that they both are dangerous by them selves!

Not exactly sure what you mean?

And of course, "religion" has often been used as an excuse to start or continue conflicts but in this particular case, both parties were of the same "religion" so the motivation was simply power - and the means to that power like wealth and influence.

The reason for the duke of Burgundy to line up with the English was certainly also influenced by economics: English wool and Flemish textile to name but one common interest - or point of leverage.

Wouldn't it be nice when every conflict would need to be allowed by a referendum on both sides and 1/3 of the votes against the conflict would prevent it

I think N-S means the main forum page on the right.  They usually have the five latest posts listed in order and maybe yours didn't show up for some reason.

I see. I didn't notice this window before. So, I have no idea if the thread was shown or not.

Aha, I think the default is "content I have not read".

At least, for me it seems to be so.

Once visited, no longer showing up.
