I'm not thrilled with the strap that came with my Coolpix B600. I know that in this thread (Is this strap attached correctly to my Coolpix B600? - Beginner Questions - NikonForums.com) Merco_61 suggested an alternative, more secure connection method which I didn't use, but it still bothers me that my point of failure was the one of the main connection points and I lost a piece my first trip out using it.
So, I went ahead and purchased this:

I think I hooked it up correctly and it hangs from my neck without any problems, but am worried because the instruction manual and online pictures show the rings hanging differently, but maybe all is well because those pictures don't show the strap being used with a Coolpix B600. The main thing I'm worried about is the end ring pieces that I had to pull out to connect them. Is there some way that the weight of the camera can cause one or both of the rings to fall off because of those things being pulled out. Also, with these types of rings, is it important that I rotate them so the end pieces are oriented in a certain spot?
Also, with this setup, are there better rings I can use, such as these triangle rings?

Are they even the right size for my camera?
This is my best effort:
