Hello,

Despite all the warnings I buggered up two of the lens bayonet mount screws.

(I got the ones with stripped heads out nicely with a 1.1mm and 3mm LH reverse drill bits, by the way.)

Question:

I can't seem to find the specs or how to know what screw to order to replace these two. Do I need to borrow from another lens? I see my Micro-Nikkor 55 3.5 AI has the same screws. Do many of the Nikkor lenses use the same screws?

The lens is SN 323332

Thanks for the advice.

Most of the Ai and AiS use the same M2 threaded screws with those ultra-shallow heads that absolutely need a JIS screwdriver to remove. Sourcing new screws is close to impossible unless you can stand slot-heads, and then the minimum order is 200000 units or so.

Scrounging screws from defect lenses is standard practise

The threadlocker breaks down with heat and is soluble in iso propyl alcohol or acetone. Best practise is to use a soldering iron before you remove the screw as you don’t risk having volatile chemicals get where they shoudn’t be…

Thank you for the insights, Nikonian. Scrounging then.
