FF vs APSC for macro

Hello All--

I am trying to decide between two options:

1. Buy the just-announced Nikon 105 mm/2.8 macro lens to use with my new Z6ii.

2. Shoot macro with a Pentax KP (APSC) camera and a good Pentax 100 mm/2.8 macro lens that I already have.

Both the cameras are 24 MP, but the Pentax, with its smaller sensor, has greater pixel density, which I imagine will yield greater resolution. The Z6ii,on the other hand, has a more advanced sensor and technology in general--would that lead to higher overall IQ?

Also affecting the decision, of course, will be the $1000 cost of the Nikon lens and the burden of carrying two cameras when I go out to shoot in the woods.

I'll be grateful for any input

Thanks--

The tighter pixel pitch of the DX sensor will lead to hitting the diffraction limit earlier, so you will lose definition at the f/8 sweet spot of the Pentax lens. I have, of course, not tested the Z, so I don't know how good it is...

I, myself would choose a third option and get the Laowa 2:1 macro lens...

your better off having full frame body then crop body since you can get better crops on Full frame then dx. also if you get sigma 105mm macro comes with crop and full frame lens hood.

My additional questions would be:
1/ what future do you want to give to your Pentax equipment.
2/ what is the use of your macro shots (own use only/published/sold)

If you want to go full Nikon, go for the Nikon or Laowa lens.

If you are not unhappy with the Pentax Macro (and even so there could be an advantage to have the Macro on the Nikon) you might want to invest your money differently.

Having two cameras with you, with different lenses mounted, can be an advantage. Why not having the macro on the Pentax and a lens for different usde on the Nikon.
