I have taken the SD Card out of my D5600 and placed it in my laptop computer which runs Windows 10 OS. I get an error message from the Nikon Transfer 2 which says "Transfer Failed, you do not have access privileges." What is going on? What do I do? Thank you anyone who can help.

Hello @photofan,
If the card is in a reader connected to your PC / laptop, what happens if you use File Explorer?
If you get the same error, you may have to sign-in to your laptop as Administrator. Do you have the same problem copying from USB sticks?
Regards
Pete

I haven't tried to retrieve from a USB sticks. I just want to transfer all my images from a recent trip to my computer. It is so annoying to not understand why I get this message......what is this "you don't have access privileges". It is my computer and software I paid for and loaded. I don't get it.

You have brought up something I didn't know about. I use Chrome, and I see Microsoft Edge......perhaps I should install Explorer for this purpose????? I am going to try to just put the SD Card in the computer and drag and drop it to a file I created on my desktop....dose that sound reasonable. I am not a computer smart person....but I am learning as I go.
Also in answer to your question.....I have Nikon Transfer 2 and Nikon View NX-i. Then there is Capture NX-D, and Picture Control Utiity 2. Frankly I don't know which ones are the most important programs. My thought is that I need to use Nikon Transfer 2 to get them in, and then I will be able toi bring them up in ViewNX-i to work with them. Correct??????

Explorer is the file management system Microsoft uses. The browser was called Internet Explorer. Copying or moving your files manually to where you want them works well with the Nikon software.
Transfer is for ingesting files for editing, ViewNX-i is for browsing te files and do some very basic editing. Capture NX-D is a full-blown raw converter and editor as long as you don't have to go into pixel-level editing or use layers. The Picture Control utility is for tweaking your own look, either for raw conversions in post work or for better in-camera jpegs.
You don't have to use Transfer for ingestion, just get the files where you want them and can easily find them. When you start View NX-i or Capture NX-D, you can just navigate to your picture folder and start from there. To confuse things even worse, Nikon have just released a new application called NX Studio that can handle both stills and videos.

OH thank you so much for this information......you have made it straightforward and easy. I am going to save your message for future reference.
Now that you have mentioned the difference between Internet Explorer and File Explorer......I paid attention.....I am always in the file explorer, just didn't look at the name of the thing I just clicked on.....OH MAN it has always been right in front of me. You are probably rolling your eye back right now. That's ok my grandkids do the same.

Make sure that the camera is turned on and the cable is correctly connected, or the memory card is correctly inserted into the card reader or card slot.
- Exit Nikon Transfer 2
- Right click the application executable
- Click Run as administrator
Check if you can then transfer. Also...
- Open Start
- Type: cmd
- Right click CMD
- Click Run as administrator
At the command prompt, type: net user administrator /active:yes
- Hit Enter
Close command prompt, restart, then try signing into the Administrator account.
Try running the file again. If problem still arises, then you can use a recovery software like stellar or wondershare to recover the photos and videos from your SD Card.
