Hi All,

I've got an old D3100 with the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens.  I've used this camera mostly for vacation photos, and more recently for real estate photos.  Lately I've been having issues with the body shutting down while shooting and I don't quite know what's going on, but I figured it might be better off just to upgrade the body rather than try to get it fixed.

So, my question - what would you recommend as a replacement for the D3100?  I know that the Z line is the new hot thing, but wasn't sure how the 18-200 DX lens would fare with the adapter.  Thoughts?

Your 18-200 will work surprisingly well on a Z50 with the FTZ adapter. As you have been used to a small and relatively lightweight body, I would definitely recommend the Z. You might as well get the two kit lenses as the extra cost is so low. The 2 mm shorter focal length can be really handy for real estate and the extra 75 mm or so at the long end compared to the 18-200 is useful when you are out doing "serious photography" while the 18-200 is a nice walkaround allrounder. (As the 18-200 gets softer over 170 mm or so, I see it more as a 18-175 rather than a 18-200).

I agree, the Z50 is compact, light, affordable, and from what Peter has posted, takes great photos.
