Hello from East Texas. I have a D7100 that I'm ok with but I have been wanting to upgrade to a FX. I found a D800 but it only has one lens; 50mm. I can trade for it but It is sort of totally different from my D7100. I don't know how to get it taking pictures as well as my old camera does. It's most likely me. I'm probably dysfunctional.

Any help with that would be greatly appreciated.

Joe

You can do it, Joe.  I went from a D5500 to a D700 and picked up on it quickly.  If you shot film, the D700/D800 will make you feel right at home.  It's mostly what button/dial does what and where it's at.  Nikon does a very good job of laying out their cameras to be user friendly, and you'll be surprised at how quickly you'll pick up on it by feel.  You'll have the option to do some things on camera, via buttons and dials without getting into the menu making them easier to work with.
