I am new here and thought maybe someone can help. I love the referenced Nikon lens. It has been my go-to lens since I bought it new. The auto focus mechanism recently stopped working so it needs service. But now it's discontinued; and Nikon service center says they can't help me. Ugh. Can someone recommend a shop that may be able to clean and service this lens? It might need a part. Any info would be super appreciated.

You could call Camera Service Inc in Atlanta and ask...

I don't know if they still can get spare parts or not.
